You can opt to receive the hard copy study pack, however there is a shipping fee of $25.
This is a five-week online course with a fixed start date and includes 12 months of access to the online learning material.
The WSET Level 2 Award in Beer focuses on how key ingredients and production processes influence the style and quality of beer. It will also teach you how to taste, describe and evaluate the quality of beer.
If you’re a beer or hospitality professional, you’ll be able to offer valuable guidance on selection and service to your colleagues and customers as a beer expert. If you’re a beer enthusiast, you’ll know exactly what to look for when choosing beers for any occasion.
What you'll learn:
- The main ingredients used in beer production, how they are processed and their influence on the style of beer produced
- Malt and adjuncts, water, hops and other flavourings, yeast and bacteria
- How beer production influences the style and quality of beer.
- Alcoholic fermentation process, brewing process, brewing equipment, beer production options, spontaneous and mixed culture fermentation options
- The key principles and processes involved in the storage and service of beer
- Ideal conditions for storage, packaging and shelf life, service temperatures, glassware, beer on tap, bottled beer, common faults, beer and food
- How over 60 beer styles are produced and labelled and their typical characteristics.
- Malt-driven lagers, malt-driven ales, hop-driven lagers, hop-driven ales, yeast-driven ales, mixed fermentation styles, other speciality beers
The course is based around a five-week, six-module online programme with a recommendation of six hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook. The course modules should be followed in sequential order during this five-week window. Regular access and participation in the online activities is essential for this mode of study. The course modules should be followed in order, but students are free to complete the modules at their own pace during this five-week period.
Students are also advised to taste a range of beers during their studies. The list of recommended beers will be provided within each relevant module, but the full list of recommended beers can also be found in the course Specification document. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review the Online Educator. If a student chooses not to taste alcohol for health or religious reasons, or is unable to purchase or access the styles of beers, this will NOT be a barrier to successfully completing the qualification.
The course content should take a minimum of 28 hours of study. To obtain the WSET Level 2 Award Certificate in Beer qualification, students will need to successfully pass the Computer-based exam with remote invigilation made up of 50 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. Results take 1-2 weeks to be released by WSET, and successful candidates will receive a Digital WSET Certificate and Badge! Once you pass, you'll receive a digital badge and certificate to mark your achievement. Share it right away on LinkedIn, social media, or with your professional network to highlight your achievement.
