Women of the Vine & Spirits Launches a New DE&I Leadership Series Engaging Senior Male Executives in Wine, Beer and Spirits
The series will address diversity barriers through authentic and complex conversations

April 22, 2021 (New York, NY) – Women of the Vine & Spirits (WOTVS), the leading membership organization, worldwide, dedicated to boldly pushing the wine, beer and spirits industry toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive era announced, today, the launch of a new ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) leadership series, called “Breaking Barriers” featuring senior male executives and DE&I leaders in the alcohol beverage industry.

This new series is in direct response to the requests received following our March 8th  WOTVS CONNECT! Male Allies Roundtable, where we realized this was a topic that needed to be a continuous conversation. To kick the series off, and honor the requests we received to do so, WOTVS invited the male leaders that were part of the March 8th panel to come back so we can have a deeper dive.

WOTVS is committed to making this a permanent series. Corporate Members that have Senior Male Executives or DE&I leaders that would like to participate in future segments are welcome to Contact Elizabeth, Director of Corporate Membership & Engagement.

The first installment is taking place next week, April 29, and will include from Ste. Michelle Estates: David Dearie, President & CEO, Dan Heller, EVP of Sales and Melody Zhang, Chief Human Resources Officer.

WOTVS Corporate Members will hear from senior male executives why they are committed to DE&I and what we can all be doing to break barriers and create a culture of inclusivity in our communities and companies. Joined by a DE&I leader, together, these unscripted live chats will dig into the topic through authentic conversation about why DE&I is important to them, who has influenced them along their life and career path, and their vision for the future of the alcohol beverage industry. Expect frank questions, honest answers and real-life lessons on how these senior male executives commit to taking action as an individual, a community member, and a corporate leader.

“DE&I is not a ‘she’ thing or a ‘he’ thing, it is a ‘we’ thing, which is why since the inception of Women of the Vine & Spirits in 2015, we have engaged men to actively participate year-round in the organization,” said Founder & CEO of Women of the Vine & Spirits, Deborah Brenner. “We know that change starts at the top and that the alcohol beverage industry is still primarily led by men. WEConnect International & Women of the Vine & Spirits Collaborate to Champion Women-Owned Businesses

New alliance to create pathways for supplier diversity and increased market-share for women-owned businesses in alcohol beverage industry

November 5, 2018 (New York) - Women of the Vine & Spirits, the world’s leading organization dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the alcohol beverage industry, has formed a Strategic Alliance with WEConnect International, the corporate-led, global non-profit that helps women-owned businesses succeed in global value chains, worldwide. The two organizations recognize the common interest to cooperatively pursue activities that enhance the business opportunities and professional development of women’s business enterprises.

The Strategic Alliance is aimed at promoting the visibility and value of working with women-owned businesses in alcohol beverage, expand market opportunities for women-owned businesses to connect with corporate buyers and other women-owned businesses around the world, and to educate and create awareness about certification and supplier diversity programs.

To achieve these objectives, the organizations will collaborate on educational tools and resources, webinars, consultations, and events focused on educating women about certification, expanding and scaling their businesses, and more. Furthermore, Women of the Vine & Spirits will be offering a new Women Owned & Certified membership package targeting women-owned business in the alcohol beverage industry, worldwide. The new membership will be formally announced, November 19 on Women’s Entrepreneurship Day.

“It is our goal at Women of the Vine & Spirits to provide women-owned companies in the alcohol beverage industry a pathway to supplier diversity programs,” said Deborah Brenner, Founder & CEO, Women of the Vine & Spirits. “Purchasing products from a woman-owned company is an investment in women’s economic empowerment which sets a direct path towards gender equality and economic growth globally.”

“Across the globe, women continue to earn, on average, less than one percent of the trillions of dollars spent on suppliers by large corporations and governments,” said Elizabeth A. Vazquez, International CEO & Co- Founder, WEConnect. “WEConnect International’s new partnership with Women of the Vine & Spirits helps to bridge this gap, connecting more women-owned businesses, in more industries, to the resources, education, and networks needed to succeed in global value chains.”

Dream Big with Danica Patrick: Crushing Gender Barriers at High Speed

Live interview with groundbreaking retired race car driver and one of the most popular and well-recognized athletes in America at Fifth Anniversary Women of the Vine & Spirits Global Symposium.

October 30, 2018 (New York, NY) – Women of the Vine & Spirits (womenofthevine.com), the world’s leading organization dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the alcohol beverage industry, announced today Danica Patrick will be interviewed live on stage at its Fifth Anniversary Women of the Vine & Spirits Global Symposium, to be held March 11-13, 2019 at the Meritage Resort & Spa, Napa, California.

One of the most recognizable professional athletes in the world, Danica Patrick joined the mainstream ranks by going against the current, immersing herself and succeeding in the male-dominated world of professional motorsports. As she broke barriers and set records on the track, including a win at the Indy Japan 300 in 2008 that made her the first woman ever to win a major-league, open-wheel race in a North American series, Patrick made a name for herself off the track as well. She was named to TIME’s “100 Most Influential People” list, has graced the cover of ESPN: The Magazine, Sports Illustrated and TV Guide, in addition to other various recognitions.

Women of the Vine & Spirits has invited Patrick to share her story on thriving in a male dominated industry to their audience of women working in the alcohol beverage industry. Patrick is a role model to young girls and women worldwide and is sure to inspire the attendees that anything is achievable if you dream big and put your mind to it.

“One of my earliest life lessons was that the most powerful tool you own is your mind,” said Patrick. “I am happy to share my experiences throughout my racing career with the women of Women of the Vine & Spirits and remind them to look at the openings, not the obstacles.”

“Danica has long been an inspiration to me and I am thrilled to have her join us and share her story of passion, perseverance, and drive for success with our members,” said Founder & CEO, Women of the Vine & Spirits, Deborah Brenner. “As a role model, Danica instills courage and confidence to women of all ages and in all industries.”

In 2017, Patrick announced that she would be retiring from racing. Having now closed out this part of her professional life, Patrick’s focus has shifted to her next chapter as an entrepreneur and business owner. She has already forged into new career territory. She launched a clothing line – Warrior by Danica Patrick – in 2017, authored the fitness book Pretty Intense and is the sole proprietor of a vineyard in California that produces Somnium Wine.

At Somnium, Patrick has employed a female General Manager, Tracy Smith. “Danica is a firm believer in supporting women,” said Smith. “She has let me know that she recognizes all that I do and helps empower me to achieve all that she knows I can.”

“At the end of the day its always about pushing people to succeed and do their best and we all have strengths to do this. It’s about wanting to do it … for the greater good,” said Patrick.

Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, and after sell-out attendance each year prior, the Global Symposium promises to feature an incredible lineup of speakers and panelists. The Global Symposium also offers attendees multiple networking opportunities with the industry’s top professionals and influencers, including executive management, human resource professionals, directors of sales and marketing, on- and off-premise buyers, distributors, educators, winemakers, distillers, sommeliers, mixologists, importers/exporters, owners, public relations, media, viticulturists, hospitality operations, and more.

For Immediate Release: Thursday 28 June 2018

Wine Intelligence and Women of the Vine & Spirits form strategic alliance, starting with a collaboration to produce a new report “The truth behind gender and global wine consumption: Do women really approach wine in a different way to men?”

Wine Intelligence, the global wine insights and research company, and Women of the Vine & Spirits, the world’s leading women’s organization dedicated to the empowerment and advancement of women in the alcohol beverage industry, are delighted to announce a new strategic alliance between the organisations.

The two companies will kick off their collaboration by working together to research and publish a new report “The truth behind gender and global wine consumption: Do women really approach wine in a different way to men?” Drawing on feedback from over 10,000 wine consumers in key wine markets

around the world, this will be the first report to be published that investigates in depth the impact of gender on consumers’ relationship with wine across multiple markets. Publication is planned for September 2018 and information on price and discounts for Women of the Vine & Spirits Corporate Members will be revealed in due course.

The alliance was announced at Women of the Vine & Spirits' International Summit held in London on the 28th of June 2018 where Wine Intelligence CEO Lulie Halstead was a panellist.

In addition, Lulie Halstead commented: “We are extremely excited to be working with Women of the Vine & Spirits. It is a fantastic opportunity for both our organisations to combine our skills and networks for the benefit of our members and clients, and to share our knowledge and experience.
