Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation, Receives the Distilled Spirits Council of The United States Humanitarian/Service Award
Awarded during the 2022 DISCUS Annual Conference, Deborah Brenner accepted on behalf of the WOTVS Foundation as President of the Non-Profit
June 14, 2021 (New York, NY) – The Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation, Ltd. 501(c)3, the charitable arm of Women of the Vine & Spirits which provides scholarships for the purpose of advancing women’s careers in the food, wine, spirits, beer and hospitality industries, announced they were selected as the recipient for the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) Humanitarian/Service Award for 2022.
The DISCUS Humanitarian/Service Award was established to honor a company or organization that has made exemplary and extraordinary contributions to their community and/or the hospitality industry.
Committed to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion in the beverage alcohol industry, the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation has provided 158 scholarships between 2017 and 2021, with 59 recipients in 2021 alone, and applications submitted from 37 different countries. Applications for the 2022 scholarships will close at the end of June, with selected recipients being awarded in September.
Since its inception, the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation has been pleased to support the DISCUS Academy. In 2021, the Foundation awarded 3 Executive Leadership scholarships and in February 2022, awarded 3 recipients for the Executive Leadership and 2 for the Developing Leader Programs
In January 2021, in direct response to the pandemic, the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation launched the Foundation Assistance Program (FAP). A groundbreaking program offering health, financial and legal aid to beverage alcohol professionals and restaurant and hospitality workers, the FAP provides support to those who have been laid off, furloughed or working reduced hours, no longer qualifying them for these services through their employer.
“I feel strongly that education and personal development are essential means of empowering and advancing women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to thrive. Through financial support, The Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation uplifts and empowers individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunities to pursue their education or professional development,” said Deborah Brenner, President, Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation. “I am incredibly honored to accept this award on behalf of the Foundation and in celebration of our generous Donors, Foundation Executive Director, Foundation Board and Committee Members, and our team at the WOTVS Foundation.”
Brenner was presented with the award during the DISCUS Annual Conference awards luncheon in New Orleans on June 9th, 2022.
